Rushing around in 23c heat, through the thick crowds and all to do  bank run . . . and then confronted with the fruits of a days labour!  Blinking Heck!  8m long and double sided - one of the longest we've done, but not quite THE longest!

Taking The Clay Challenge

An unusual request - can we make a stamp to make an impression in clay?  It took several attempts, and our lovely client Hayley very patiently agreed to 'clay test' our prototype, but it works!  So now she doesn't have to hand carve her 'trademark' into each piece, just use a stamp!

C1 Over

Have been on the look out for a Citroen C1 all week so I could size the back window up for a customer's decals.  They are few and far between on the South Coast.

So imagine my amazement, cycling back from the bank today, to be almost run over by a C1!  And the driver couldn't understand why I was sitting there laughing in delight! 

Yes, we aren't necessarily mad to be working here, but it sometimes helps!

Big is Not Always Beautiful

especially when it comes to making banners.  Yesterday we made our longest banner, at just over 9m (that's 30' in old money!).  Not only did we run out of space and have to hire the local village hall for the evening, but our cutter can't deal with letters over 600mm tall.  That we could get around with some signwriters tricks . . . but the achy shoulders and late night might account for slow productivity today!

What a surprise!  The latest e-newsletter from the Sustainable Business Partnership popped into the in-box to be scan read as usual.  But the paragraph below stopped me in my tracks . . . .

Griffin Designs has recently been recognised for their effort in encouraging their customers to re-use their vinyl advertising banners.  After gaining a 'Highly Commended' in the Green Business Category of the Chichester Observer Business Awards 2009, Karen commented: “receiving this award is a fantastic recognition of the work we do.  When we started re-stripping and re-designing customers' vinyl banners for them, it was a relatively new and time consuming idea, but it is now very popular with businesses and charities of all sizes, from the public to the private sector.'  Customers have the opportunity to re-use their vinyl advertising banners, so reducing landfill, but also saving themselves money as well as giving their own green credentials a dust off.”

The Trees are in The Wood

Operations has to be the hardest part of this business.  We hate to say no to anyone who wants a banner, but we have had a lot of short notice banners this month, which means that some customers have been incredibly patient despite having ordered well in advance.  Thank you to them, but we still will keep trying to say 'yes' to everyone - we love overtime!
