We think they do! And they definitely change with time. These first three sentences are written in ‘Times New Roman bold’ – many see this as ‘so last century’, because the 21st Century saw a move to un-serifed fonts (that is fonts without the little ticks at the bottom and tops of letters).
This font is 'Arial' (an un-serifed font) and is a great one for banners and vehicle signage, as it is so easy to read especially in bold!
All of this newsletter is written at size 12 and you can easily see how each font has different sizes - this one is 'Georgia' and very popular with the younger generation at the moment, although the numbers can look a bit odd 0123456789 on vehicles.
This is why many vinyl lettering companies will ask you for a capital letter height (and we don't like 'Garamond' as it is really teeny).
By asking clients to specify a capital letter height, we can avoid disappointment when it comes to application, especially if customers are applying lettering themselves - 'Tahoma' is tall and thin.
And some fonts only come in capital letters - this one is Schlockoblockodroppo
And some are immediately associated with different attributes. This one is Zebraesq but it makes you feel like you are travelling faster - great for Brands associated with speed.

Fonts are described in the trade as being part of a 'family' and, like our own families, they all have different attributes. Take 'Tekton'.

And Tekton Pro
Or Tekton Pro Extended although most designers will be able to manipulate any font style to fit your desired space (known in the trade as 'kerning').
