We often get asked how permanent vinyl lettering is. The answer is 'that depends'!
- on the quality of the vinyl used for the lettering
- the quality/cleanliness of the surface it adhered to
- and the conditions it will be exposed to
Vinyl lettering, like most things in life, comes in many different qualities and it is hard even for the experts to tell the difference once it is applied. In the workshop, manufacturers apply different colour coded backing sheets so that we know whether our rolls are 5 or 7 year vinyl, but once this is removed in the application process, all lettering looks very much the same.
For vehicles, opt for the 7 year variety, because modern vehicles tend to go this long, and if you want to avoid colour fade, get your vinyl lettering cut instead of printed, as the colour goes all the way through the material.
